Americas Cup the 27the to the 30th of August
Today was the first Race day of the Americas Cup, one of the greatest competition in sailing history and this time the luck has come to Gothenburg. Between the 27th and the 30th of August, visitors are able to come and watch the Americas Cup event.
The two first day of the event was training and today, Saturday was the first day of competition. Outside GKSS at Långedrag people watch the race. Thursday was a very windy and extremely rainy day, today the sun was shining and the wind was blowing, a perfect sailing day.
It is a special feeling, for someone who loves sailing all sailing events are interesting, but with these AC45 classed boats, a catamaran with a wing sail, who doesn’t love to watch them? There is a fascination to watch them sailing, it is like they are sailing in a half circle. They begin and when the increase in speed and it looks almost they lift over the water.
Skipper Jimmy Spithill, the American boat hold the lead al the way through. A while after there was the Land Roover Boat with skipper Ben Ainslie, followed by The Emirates boat with the New Zealander skipper Peter Burling. Those positions hold all the way through. Many of the boats followed The Oracle who chosen the left wing up to the mark. It was clear they had good wind there.
The Oracle team were doing good strategic choices and so the held their lead al way through the race. Their lead was half of the distance to the next mark for the second boat to reach them.
With this lead the other boats had big difficulties, in some part of the race, the first and the last boat met but on different distances.
But over all it was a very special opportunity to see these boats races towards each other, a memorable day in Gothenburg.
