It is a special feeling, for someone who loves sailing all sailing events are interesting, but with these AC45 classed boats, a catamaran with a wing sail, who doesn’t love to watch them? There is a fascination to watch them sailing, it is like they are sailing in a half circle. They begin and when the increase in speed and it looks almost they lift over the water.

Skipper Jimmy Spithill, the American boat hold the lead al the way through. A while after there was the Land Roover Boat with skipper Ben Ainslie, followed by The Emirates boat with the New Zealander skipper Peter Burling. Those positions hold all the way through. Many of the boats followed The Oracle who chosen the left wing up to the mark. It was clear they had good wind there.

The Oracle team were doing good strategic choices and so the held their lead al way through the race. Their lead was half of the distance to the next mark for the second boat to reach them.

With this lead the other boats had big difficulties, in some part of the race, the first and the last boat met but on different distances.

In order to make the orientation more audience friendly they laid the course in Borås city centre for the ‘elite classed. It was a challenge for the volunteers, when people did not observe the competition and started to walk in the middle of the pavement where the sport of the top level ran, however they manage to get people to step a side.

It is an open discussion if it is a good choice to bring the orientation into the city versus staying in the forest and than more far away to its public area.

Orienteering is a sport for everyone –Oringen is open for everyone no matter what your physical conditions is.

DSC_1795_600The O-ringen is a competition that each year moves to another place. It contains of 17 orientation organisations. The competition would not work without the 1500 volunteers that during those days support all the participants. O-ringen built The O-ringen city, a small area for all the participant and the families to live while competing.

The volunteers are every where, ready to help you with all your needs.

In the open –office, where you can sign up for the competition the same day, they usually expect 1000 persons pro day but according to one volunteer, the 22nd, 1500 signed up.

Over all the O-ringen has an environmental friendly approach and tries to encourage people to go by bike instead of taking the car. However there are parking spaces but also organised places where to park your bike.

There are showers, food places, massage tent- an entire organisation to support the participants.

Next year O-ringen will take place in Sälen.
